Updated: Oct 28, 2024

I am Tako Mosemgvdlishvili, a graduate of the Viticulture and Winemaking Bachelor's program at the Agricultural University of Georgia. I am currently a sommelier at Flags Wine Bar.

T: How and why did I end up where I am?

I have been connected with vineyards and wine since childhood, but I had never considered it professionally until I accidentally joined an introduction program at the Agricultural University while preparing for my entrance exams. I was immediately fascinated by this profession. Viticulture and winemaking are quite challenging and labor-intensive, but at the same time, they are very interesting and full of adventures. Every harvest presents new challenges and difficulties, and through these, we grow, accumulate experience, and gain knowledge.

T: Why did I choose this profession?

Choosing a profession is quite difficult. I always wanted to do something that would bring me joy and allow me to fully express myself. Wine is exactly that for me, the best way to express myself.

T: My goal

I plan to continue my studies in Germany, and afterward, I want to explore and learn from the winemaking traditions of as many countries as possible. I will use this experience to create my own winery in the future.

T: What motivates me to do what I do?

The process of making wine and learning motivates me. I get great pleasure from it, especially when I see the results of my hard work and share them with others with joy.

T: What is lacking in Georgian winemaking?

First and foremost, Georgian winemaking needs well-maintained vineyards because that's where the journey of wine begins. Additionally, improving the quality of wine requires many experiments, resources, and a well-qualified new generation.

T: Advice for those choosing this profession now:

It is important to understand all aspects of this profession thoroughly and never be afraid of challenges, which you will often encounter in this field in Georgia. The main thing is to do what you love and enjoy, always strive to become a better version of yourself, and you will definitely achieve success.
