Rare Georgian Grape Varieties

Kvishkhuri –Zodi Winery 2022

Kvishkhuri is a white grape variety often referred to as a synonym for Goruli Mtsvane. This particular sample is made from grapes harvested in Imereti, fermented in a qvevri using traditional Imeretian methods. The wine reflects the characteristic profile of the region, offering lively acidity, lightness, delicate floral aromas, and notes of yellow stone fruits. It’s an ideal choice for those who appreciate a light qvevri wine.

Kisturi Sagvine / Aleksandreuli – Natalia Dakishvili 2022

This sample is made from grapes harvested in the Kakheti region and was fermented in a qvevri. While qvevri wines are often associated with full-bodied, tannin-rich wines, this particular one is light, refined, and elegant due to the choice of grape variety and production technique. It showcases aromas of raspberry, blueberry, and cherry. With its lively acidity, balanced taste, and soft tannins, this wine pairs well with a variety of dishes.

Asuretuli Shavi – Marbano 2019

This sample from the Kartli region is notable for its complex aroma profile. Aged in oak barrels, it brings forward both varietal and secondary aromas like smoke, cinnamon, and spices. The wine has rich, ripe tannins and pairs perfectly with fatty dishes, including, perhaps unsurprisingly, steak.

Nika - Anapea 2022

This wine is crafted from 13 different grape varieties, including Simona's, Zhgia, Bua, Kurkena, and Kumsi Tetra. It has a light body, high acidity, and aromas of dried fruit and cherry pit-like tones. The finish is not particularly long, yet it’s a lively and impressive sample in terms of character.
