How to increase popularity of wine - Kosta's 3 golden rule

Updated: Oct 28, 2024

In the  8000 vintage Abashidze branch Kosta has been hosting us since the opening day. He believes that winemaking is an art that does not mean closure – on the contrary, you should expand as much as possible and conduct many experiments, adapt to the customer. Selling is the process when you introduce/share your product to the customer. Just because a wine has been tasted and hit the shelves does not mean it will sell itself. It changes most in the bottle and a new phase begins when it is put on the shelf. It is necessary to make the wine popular.

To increase popularity, Kosta shares 3 golden rule:

1.      Feel the customer

Consumers have a serious interest in getting to know the winemaker personally. The conversation between the winemaker and the customer explains a lot. Many winemkakers may not want to leave the cellar, which is understandable – the wine will speak for itself, but the philosophy of wine needs to be told by someone. For this, we offer a “winemaker’s day” – the winemaker or brand manager of a particular winery personally hosts wine enthusiasts at the tasting table and shares his experience. The customer may not buy that wine that day, but he/she will see it somewhere and will definitely remember it.

2.      Who sells wine

A winemaker should pay attention to the people who sell wine. it is important to explain his approach, worldview, his wine to sommeliers and consultants as correctly as possible. For this, we invite winemakers and conduct tastings together with employees. Which helps them a lot to bring the wine to the right customers. I think it is better to not have many such meetings, it is better to have one and quality one.

3.      Label – Packaging – Branding

A winemaker is a person who captures emotion in the wine and makes others feel it. He should see everything in detail. The first association we create with wine is from the visual of the bottle – starting with the bottle and ending with the label. That is why its packaging is important. The visual helps us a lot in finding the wine of the desired character. It is very difficult to make your wine shine on such a large shelf, there are many things to do.
