Grigol Neparidze

Updated: Oct 28, 2024

I am Grigol Neparidze, bachelor and master of viticulture and winemaking, founder and winemaker of family winemaking Vini Amare.

How I got to where I am today?

It all started a long time ago. Since childhood, I watched how lovingly and diligently my family served this field, and I was mentally “poisoned” by the love of winemaking from an early age. After childhood, when my independent opinion was formed and I understood, the way the world is arranges, I realized that the complete cycle of wine creation from the sweet grape to the tasting glass mirrors the sequence of human growth and formation, which made me even more interesting, because every year I get the chance to observe and understand this metamorphosis with my own eyes.

Why I chose this profession:

I have been in love with the profession since I was a child, like to see a finished, excellent product, a pure liquid, in the formation of which I have some minimal contribution through my decisions and actions as a winemaker. My family production is called Vini Amare and I believe that every year I will convey my message to the consumers and tasters of my product with the help of my wines. The winemaker intervenes in the process of vinification in such a way that mentally his character, determination and thinking are necessarily reflected in the product he creates.

My goal is:

My goals is to spread the name of Georgian wine and Vini Amare as far as possible outside the country, which will be a guarantee of high quality for consumers. I want to make my contribution to the restoration of Georgian, forgotten, endemic varieties and their return to winemaking that is why last year we started to cultivate the Imeretian endemic variety – Rko black, in Vini Amare vineyard, and I hope that in the future I will deal with even more forgotten varieties.

What motivates me to do what I do?

I am most motivated by the positive evaluations of customers after tasting my created product. At this time, I realize that the whole year’s work, care and nervousness have got gone in vain. All this gives you a great incentive as a winemaker to want even more and not disappoint your customers after tasting the new harvest.

What is missing in Georgian winemaking industry?

Georgian winemaking lacks the most knowledge, introducing and inovations into our reality, updating equipment, which is improved every year in order to obtain a higher quality product with less effort. If we take a look at the history of Georgian winemaking, we will often be surprised and ask ourselves how our ancestors knew everything that we can conclude with the help of modern technologies. There are many such examples and they refer to the care of the vineyard with various bio or natural preparations, as well as the hygiene of the cellar and cellar with the use of bio pesticide and preservative nature plants and other biological substances. In my opinion, the answer to this is that humans have become too far away from nature, we no longer understand plants, and we can no longer observe in the world what our ancestors used to observe and then use successfully in their work.

Advice to those who choose this profession now:

for those who are considering whether to choose this profession or not, I would advise everyone to volunteer at some enterprise or winery for at least 1 month, this period is enough to make sure that a person really wants to work in this field. People are used to watching the sunset with a well-chosen perspective on the background of the vineyard in cinematography and advertisements, seeing beautiful shots of the vineyard lit up by fire at night to protect it from spring frosts, or romantic shots of tasting wine in a hidden cellar, but behind all this there is a lot of work, nervousness, knowledge and dedication that we will never understand without practice. This is a work that you have to do with all love, patience and determination, otherwise it is impossible to achieve success.
