Amber Wines Perfect for Autumn

Amber wines, as you’ll agree, are perfect for the cool days of autumn. We encounter various examples of this type of wine, but in this article, I want to recommend those wines that you must taste if you enjoy discovering new flavors.

LaelMarani – Rkatsiteli 2020

This wine is full-bodied, balanced, and harmonious. It features well-expressed aromas of dried apricot and peach jam. It has a relatively long finish and a rich bouquet. The wine is made from organic vines grown in the village of Kurdghelauri and has undergone fermentation in a qvevri.

Tegani – Rkatsiteli 2022

The wine showcases well-expressed varietal aromas. In addition to yellow stone fruit, it has very intense notes of spices, hay, and green tea. The palate is quite rich and balanced. This wine pairs perfectly with seafood. As in the previous example, fermentation was carried out in a qvevri.

In addition to qvevri, amber wine can also be made in stainless steel tanks using the same technology, which involves using stems during the fermentation process.

An example of this is:

Bostogana – Kisi 2021

This Kisi example is one of the most distinctive and memorable due to its rich bouquet, amazingly intense aromas, and sweet tones. It features aromas of white plum and fig jam. On the palate, it reveals quite abundant and ripe tannins.

Anemo – Krakhuna 2022

I would definitely recommend this wine to someone who enjoys lighter amber wines. It is made in the Imereti style, which involves using only part of the stems (25-30%). It is characterized by well-expressed, lively acidity, medium-intensity tannins, and a long finish. Notable aromas include quince and peach jam. This style of qvevri wine is ideal for those who are just beginning to explore qvevri wines.

 Eclipse – Kisi 2021

The wine has undergone fermentation in an amphora and was then aged in oak barrels. In addition to varietal aromas, there are subtle notes of spices, vanilla, and caramel. The tannins are quite softened and rounded, accompanied by well-expressed acidity. I am confident that this example will leave a strong impression on you.
